Privacy Policy
What Haldersund gathers about you, why we keep it, who may see it, and how you stay in control, across our website and insurance services.
This notice is issued by Haldersund Cargo Underwriting, Inc., trading as Haldersund. It sets out what personal information we gather, the reasons we hold it, the parties who may receive it, including recipients outside your country, and the controls you have over it.
By using our website or services you accept the practices below, including the cookies and analytics tools described under Cookies, analytics, and similar technologies and the choices offered in our cookie banner. This notice sits alongside our Terms of Use.
How to reach us

Where this notice applies
This notice governs information gathered through haldersund.com and our other digital channels. When we receive information by other means, for example a paper application or a phone call with an underwriter, we apply the same principles wherever it is practical to do so.
What we gather
The categories below vary with how you work with us:
- Site activity: the pages you open, when you open them, your IP address, cookie identifiers, browser and operating system, the device you use, and the site that referred you.
- Identity and business contact details: your name, company, email, postal address, and phone number, supplied when you ask for a quote, apply for cover, open an account, sign up for updates, or fill in a form.
- Policy and claims material: shipment particulars, declared values, routings, descriptions of loss or damage, supporting evidence, the payment details needed to bind a policy or settle a claim, and recordings of calls with our team or appointed service partners.
- Recruitment and contractor information: when you apply to join us or provide services to us.
Much of the site can be read without telling us who you are. Binding cover or lodging a claim, however, calls for specific information we cannot proceed without.
Where the information comes from
Most of it comes straight from you, from brokers or other representatives acting for you, or from platforms connected to ours. Where a shipment or claim involves other parties, for example carriers, warehouse operators, surveyors, or loss adjusters, we may also receive information from them.
Categories of personal information on file
For policyholders, claimants, brokers, and other business contacts, our records may include any of the following:
- Name, postal address, email address, and phone number(s).
- Date of birth or company registration details, where they are relevant.
- Banking and account details used to underwrite cover and settle payments.
- Medical or injury details when a claim makes them necessary.
- Details needed for sanctions and compliance screening, where that applies.
Haldersund does not sell personal information to marketers or list brokers.
What we use it for
We hold and use personal information in order to:
- Arrange, service, and renew cargo and shipping cover, and cancel it when asked.
- Assess risk and set premiums.
- Handle claims from first notice through to payment.
- Take payments and process transactions.
- Tailor your experience, for instance by restoring a form you left half-finished.
- Answer questions and deal with complaints or disputes.
- Satisfy legal, regulatory, audit, and compliance duties.
- Keep you informed about your cover and, where the law allows, about our products.
If we cannot obtain the information we need, we may be unable to bind cover, service your policy, respond to your enquiry, or pay a claim.
Who we share it with
Where the law permits, we pass personal information to organizations that help us run our business, including:
- Brokers, agents, distribution partners, and program administrators.
- Claims handlers, surveyors, loss adjusters, investigators, and emergency or repair contractors.
- Other insurers and reinsurers, and industry reference databases.
- Banks and payment providers.
- Hosting and software providers, and professional advisers, all working under confidentiality terms.
- Regulators, government agencies, courts, and dispute-resolution schemes where the law requires or allows.
- Other companies in the Haldersund group, for administration and reporting.
We do not sell or pass your information to unrelated organizations for their own marketing without your consent. Sharing is limited to what this notice describes or what is needed to deliver the service you asked for.
Transfers outside your country
Cargo moves across borders, and so does the information needed to insure it. Our offices, partners, and service providers may be located in countries whose data-protection rules differ from your own. Whenever we send information abroad, we take reasonable steps to make sure the recipient protects it and uses it only for the purposes set out in this notice.
Cookies, analytics, and similar technologies
This part of the notice covers the cookies and local storage in use on haldersund.com. Read it alongside the rest of this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use.
Cookies in brief
A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device. We also rely on related mechanisms like local storage, for instance to hold your cookie preference. These tools keep a site working and remember your settings. With your permission they also tell us how visitors move around the site.
Choosing in the cookie banner
On your first visit a banner appears at the foot of the page. It stays until you pick one of two options:
- Accept all: permits the essential tools together with the optional analytics and measurement cookies listed below, where we use them.
- Essential only: permits nothing beyond the strictly necessary tools that run the site and record your choice. No optional analytics cookies are set.
Your answer is saved in your browser (see haldersund_cookie_consent below), so the banner does not return on every visit, unless you clear site data or we change this notice in a way that calls for fresh consent.
To revisit your choice, clear this site’s cookies and local storage in your browser settings and reload; the banner will appear again. Questions are welcome at protect@haldersund.com.

Links and embedded content
Links on this site may take you to external websites run by carriers or partners, each with its own cookie practices. If we embed third-party content or tools in future, they will be listed here.
Managing cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you block or remove cookies; look under its Privacy or Site settings menu. Bear in mind that blocking cookies entirely may stop the banner from remembering your answer and can reduce site functionality.
Do Not Track signals and advertising
Because no uniform industry standard exists, we do not treat every “Do Not Track” browser signal the same way. We do not sell personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To opt out of any targeted advertising connected with our brand, or to exercise other privacy rights, write to protect@haldersund.com.
Changes to the cookie section
If the way we use cookies changes, this section will be revised and the effective date at the top of the page updated. Where a change is material, the banner may reappear so you can decide afresh.
Keeping your information secure
We maintain organizational, administrative, technical, and physical controls intended to protect the personal information you send us, whether through the site or another channel. Payment details entered online travel over encrypted connections (SSL/TLS) and are handled by secure payment providers. Only staff and contractors whose roles require it can access personal information.
How long records are kept
Policy and client records stay on file for as long as we need them to service cover and handle claims, and for as long as legal and regulatory obligations require, including the minimum retention periods that insurance regulators impose in the jurisdictions where we operate. Once there is no longer a reason to keep information, we take reasonable steps to erase it or strip it of anything that could reasonably identify a person.
Reviewing and correcting your information
We work to keep the information we hold accurate, complete, and current. You can ask to see or amend your records using the contact details above. Before we respond we may need to confirm who you are. We may ask for your full name, your date of birth, and the specifics of the request, and if you are acting for someone else, for their written authority.
Applicable privacy law lets us decline certain access requests, and we will explain when that is the case. Correction requests are free; where the law permits, a reasonable fee may apply to unusually extensive access requests.
Rights under state and regional privacy laws
Where they apply, we respect rights granted by the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA) and comparable state or regional laws. Residents of some jurisdictions may be entitled to learn what we hold, correct it, request deletion, or restrict certain uses of their information. Contact us to exercise any of these rights; legal exceptions may apply.
Minors
Haldersund serves businesses and adults, and we do not knowingly gather personal information from children under 13. If you think a child has provided information to us, let us know and we will remove it.
Revisions to this notice
This notice may change over time. Revisions are published on this page and apply from the date they appear, so please check back now and then.
