Insurance that follows the cargo

Full-value protection for goods in motion: on the water, on the road, in a warehouse between legs, and in the last parcel van. One policy for every carrier and lane.

Full-Value Cargo Protection

A carrier’s declared-value fee buys a liability cap, in most cases set at a fraction of what the goods are worth, and the carrier decides whether to pay. Haldersund insures the full invoice value and adds freight and duty on request.

  • Full invoice value, plus freight, duty, and an agreed margin of up to 10%
  • Warehouse-to-warehouse terms: cover starts at your loading dock and ends at the consignee’s door, including transhipment and storage in between
  • Container water ingress, pallet crush, drop damage, and theft from a parked trailer are written in as covered events

Damage and Loss Coverage

Loss takes many forms. A reefer holds −18 °C for nine days and then drifts for six hours. A container arrives with the seal intact and the cartons soaked. A pallet of glassware leaves as one unit and arrives as thirty. A carton of phones leaves the sort hub and never scans again. We write cover for the ways goods fail in transit.

  • All-risk as standard; named-perils terms where you want a narrower, cheaper policy
  • Temperature deviation cover for frozen and chilled reefer cargo, including pharmaceuticals
  • General average and salvage contributions when the vessel itself is the casualty

Claims Handling

Ninety-six percent of our claims settle inside 30 days. A surveyor is on site within 48 hours and salvage is arranged before the goods lose more value. Carrier recovery comes afterwards, on our time, so you never wait on subrogation.

  • 24/7 loss notification line; call the moment a shipment goes wrong, even at 3 a.m. on a Sunday
  • Independent survey at the port or your dock, with a written report you can hand to your customer
  • Salvage sale and carrier recovery handled by us; the recovery never delays your payment

Programs and specialty lines

Cover built around the shipper

Most clients start with a single transit policy. These programs carry the same terms into warehousing, checkout, liability, and project moves as volume grows.

Freight Forwarder Programs

Open cover for the cargo you book on behalf of clients, with a certificate issued per shipment and a rate you can quote alongside the freight.

3PL & Warehouse Cover

Goods in your care, custody, or control are covered on the rack, in cross-dock, on a yard trailer, or under customs bond, whether or not the customer bought a policy of their own.

Inventory in Motion

One policy from factory gate through every warehouse to the retail shelf. No gap where the marine policy ends and the property policy has not yet started.

Checkout Shipment Protection

Offer buyers protection at checkout on your store. Lost parcels, porch theft, mis-deliveries, and crushed boxes are paid from our line, and your support team stops arguing with carriers.

Manufacturer Programs

Annual open cover for outbound finished goods and inbound components, priced on declared turnover instead of shipment by shipment.

Project & Heavy Lift

Transformers, turbine blades, reactor vessels, and plant modules moving on a single sailing. Route surveys, lashing review, crane-transfer checks, and delay-in-start-up options written by underwriters who have watched a lift go wrong.

Why Haldersund

Written by people who have stood on the quay

Underwriters who know cargo

Our founders came from marine underwriting in Bergen. The specialists who price your risk spent years reading bills of lading and survey reports before they priced anything.

Cover that pays when tested

We do not sell exclusions dressed as coverage. Port congestion, transhipment delays, yard storage, and rough handling are written in, with limits stated in plain figures.

Settled within 30 days

96% of claims are paid within 30 days of the documents arriving. If a file stalls, you get a named adjuster’s direct number.

One file, start to finish

The team that binds your cover is the team that handles your claim. Nothing is passed to a third-party administrator.

18 offices, 140+ trade lanes

Claims contacts in North America and Europe who know the ports, customs regimes, surveyors, and salvage markets on each lane you use.

Follows the goods across carriers

Parcel, LTL, full truck, rail, air, or ocean: switch carriers mid-year and the cover moves with the cargo.
